In 1999, owner-chef Louis Schröder (’60) came to Provence with his charming wife Marie-Louise to realize a long-cherished dream: a restaurant with a warm and welcoming atmosphere where you immediately feel at home as a guest .
Self-taught Schröder succeeded perfectly. Although he only followed his passion for cooking later in life (after studying at the agricultural college), his original dishes, inspired by classic cuisine, prove his class. French-Mediterranean cuisine, but according to its own interpretation.
He gained his knowledge and experience in several leading Dutch restaurants, such as Lauswolt, Chalet Royal, De Kersentuin and Brasserie van Baerle. He only became passionate when he cooked with Joop Braakhekke in Le Garage in Amsterdam: the combination of culinary perfection and the relaxed atmosphere appealed to him. “When you spend an afternoon or evening at a restaurant, it’s not just the good food that counts. You should feel at home in a pleasant setting with personalized service. The feeling that you are welcome is essential. “
That’s why the warm terracotta walls are decorated with sunny paintings by artists such as Jos Leur and Annelies Hoek. That is why the focal point of the restaurant is the kitchen, designed by Lodewijk. This is why, during summer evenings, you can enjoy the romantic and welcoming terrace. And that’s why Au Temps des Cerises, the sun naturally shines on your plate. Or as Louis says: “Don’t handle the product too much, it’s quite tasty on its own.” Less is more. And it is precisely in this that the master’s hand is hidden.
